Orel Joseph Evenson

Montevideo

Orel Evenson, of Montevideo, died on Monday, February 10, 2003 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Orel Joseph Evenson was born on September 22, 1918 in Swift County, MN to Edwin and Emilie (Gilsrud) Evenson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Swenoda Lutheran Church, grew up in the rural Benson, MN area and attended rural schools.  On June 28, 1947 he was united in marriage to Virginia Holstad in Benson, MN.  They lived in rural Benson until moving to Montevideo in 1950.  He worked at Montevideo Block & Tile and worked for various carpenters until he began carpentry work on his own.  He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and enjoyed visiting with his friends, being with his family and working on odd jobs for friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia;  son, Gary Evenson and his wife Karin of Brooklyn Park, MN; daughter, Gail Evenson of Bloomington, MN; grandchildren: Landis  Evenson and his wife Penny;  Jeremy Evenson and his wife Jenny and Jill Krasean and her husband Brendan; four great grandchildren: Taylor, April, Garrett and Grace Evenson; three brothers: Floyd Evenson and his wife Marjorie of Benson, MN, Raynold Evenson and his wife Carol of Montevideo, and Dean Evenson and his wife Shirley of Benson, MN; six sisters: Viola Norby and her husband Melvin, Amy Stay and Verna Myhre, all of Montevideo, Violet Jerve of Plymouth, MN, Mardell Kennedy and her husband Keith of Bloomington, MN, and LaVina Evenson of Minnetonka, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lorando and by a brother, Laverne in infancy.
