Orice LeRoy Larson was born on November 4, 1919 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Ludvig and Olava (Svea) Larson. He graduated from Milan High School in 1938 and served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater. On December 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to Vivian Skogrand at Camp Claiborne, LA. Upon his discharge from the Army, they lived in rural Montevideo where he operated a repair shop for many years fixing everything from lawn mowers to combines. They moved into Montevideo in 1968. They showed us kids how to live. They were a great team in dance, cards, gardening, or just visiting. Orice was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic working at Lametti and Sons in Minneapolis and later at REC in Montevideo. He was Past Commander of VFW Post #380 and active in the American Legion, DAV, and Cooties. Orice was presented the Patriot Award on October 19, 2013 in recognition of his community service.
Orice was most proud of his family, Norwegian heritage, and service to his country. He lived a simple life, giving generously of his time and many talents. He could fix anything. Orice will be remembered for his hugs, twinkling eyes, and quick wit.
