Orien Docken

September 4, 1915 — November 10, 2012

Orien Docken, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 97.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 14, 2012  at 11:00 A.M. at Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Kathy Skoglund officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Orien B. Docken was born on September 4, 1915 in Maynard, MN to Bernt and Melvina (Gerde) Docken.  He was baptized and confirmed at Maynard Lutheran Church and graduated from Maynard High School in 1932. He worked for Zenith Radio in Chicago, IL for four years before entering the US Army in 1941.  He served during World War II, serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon before being discharged in 1945.  On May 2, 1964 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Kuehn Wig in Montevideo.  He owned and operated a television repair and retail business in Maynard before retiring in 1983.  He was a life-long resident of Maynard until moving to Montevideo in 2002. He was an active member of the Maynard Lutheran Church, American Legion Post #252 in Maynard, a charter member of the Maynard Lions Club and was a life member of VFW Post #3871 in Granite Falls.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, doing wood crafts, reading and watching sports on television.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children: Carol (and Ron) Hadrath of Montevideo; Audrey Arends of Montevideo and Byran (and Mary) Wig of Elko, MN; eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; a brother, Luverne Docken of LaCrescent, MN; a sister, Evelyn Peterson of Minneapolis; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and Roland; and by five sisters: Mildred Seger, Bernie Dietz, Arleen Christianson, Ruth Thompson and Aloris Abbott.
