Orrin Haugen, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Chippewa County- Montevideo Hospital at the age of 80. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 25, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Charles Leonard officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 6-7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Orrin Knute Haugen was born on May 28, 1928 near Clarkfield, MN to Knute and Imo (Homan) Haugen. He attended rural schools and graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1946. Following his graduation, he began farming in Hazel Run Township of Yellow Medicine County. On December 29, 1969, he was united in marriage to Darlene (Schelinder) Bates in South Dakota. They moved from their farm in Hazel Run Township to a farm near Montevideo in 1982, where he has lived since. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo and had been a member of Farm Bureau. Farming and cattle were his greatest interests in life. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children: Nathan Haugen of Clarkfield, MN, Victoria (and Scott) Kling of Montevideo, Della Radar of Duluth, MN and Michael (and Mary) Bates of Benson, MN; four grandchildren: Justin (and Tasha) Kling, Amy Kling, Kenneth Bates and Amanda Bates; four great-grandchildren: Addyson Hochhalter, and Madyson, Madahlyn, and Macey Kling; a sister, Gladys (and Darold) Doose of Granite Falls, MN; a brother, Glen Haugen of Spooner, WI; as well as by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Kermit and Harold Haugen.
