Orrin Strommer, formerly of Montevideo, died Thursday, December 31, 1998 in Phoenix, AZ at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, January 7 at 1:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Wayne Kopitzke officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to services at the church.
Orrin Elroy Strommer was born on December 28, 1915 in Montevideo, MN to Joseph and Mary (Erickson) Strommer. He grew up in Montevideo and attended Montevideo schools. He was united in marriage to Lilly Schoening. He was on the Montevideo Police Dept. for 28 years, most of it as Police Chief before retiring in 1978. Following the death of Lilly, he was united in marriage to Marge Wisner Cushman on September 15, 1979 at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He split his retirement time in Montevideo and Apache Junction, AZ, before settling in Apache Junction several years ago. He was a long-time member of the Montevideo Mens Chorus & Fiesta City Chorus as well as of Kiwanis.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; grandchildren: David (Angie) Strommer of Alaska and Eric (Cheryl) Strommer of Grand Rapids, MN; one daughter-in-law, Frances Strommer of Grand Rapids, MN; three sisters: Josephine Peterson of Ortonville, MN, Hannah Parr of Indiana and Clara Swenson of Eagan, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. .
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Bertha Strommer; his first wife, Lilly in 1977; one son, David in 1997; and seven brothers and sisters.
