Orton Leo Haugen

Orton Haugen, 77, of rural Montevideo, died February 17, 2001 at his home in rural Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Gregory Gabriel will officiate and interment will be at Mandt Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening.

Orton Leo Haugen was born June 3, 1923 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Oluf and Henrietta (Gilbertson) Haugen.  He was baptized and confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church and graduated from Milan High School in 1941.  Orton served in the US Navy during WW II in the South Pacific.  He was united in marriage with Dolores Quenemoen December 12, 1948 at the Quenemoen home.  They made their home and farmed in Mandt Township.  Orton was a rural letter mail carrier for 24 years.  He was a member of VFW Post 380, American Legion, and a charter member of the VFW Drum and Bugle Corps.  Orton enjoyed bowling, woodworking, walking, yard work, having coffee and visiting with friends, playing Pinochle, and he participated in the annual CROP walks.  He was a very active member of Mandt Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores; four children: Tim Haugen and his wife Linda of Elm Springs, SD, Ann Haugen and her husband Bryan Gulden of St. Paul, MN, Scott Haugen and his wife Bonnie of Montevideo, MN, and Patrick Haugen of St. Cloud, MN; eight grandchildren: Tyler (Dee) Haugen, Tadd Haugen, Will Haugen, and Lane Haugen, Alissa Haugen, Laura Haugen, and Kate Haugen, and Hanna Gulden; one brother, Donald (Rudella) Haugen of Montevideo, MN; four sisters: Rosalie Sorenson of Starbuck, MN, Irma Halstead of Alexandria, MN, Harriette Sexton of Chico, CA; and Wanda (Wayne) Fostervold of Willmar, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two sisters: Margaret Fiala and Evelyn Knoll.
