Orval Norman Ladwig

Orval Ladwig, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 25, 2005 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. David Baumgarn officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 8 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Orval Norman Ladwig was born on January 30, 1914 in Revillo, SD to Arthur G and Helen (Martins) Ladwig. He was baptized at St. Pauls Lutheran Church near Albee, SD and attended rural schools.  On April 8, 1938 he was united in marriage to Lillian Zuehlke in Watertown, SD.  They lived in Marietta, MN for a short time before moving to Montevideo in 1942.  He served in the US Army during WWII, serving in the European Theatre during 1944  - 1945 and was presented 2 Purple Hearts. He worked J.L. Johnson Garage before working for Eckholm’s Television & Refrigeration.  He later bought out the business, operating it as Orv & Bob’s and later as Orv & Ron’s, before retiring in 1984.  He was a member of the DAV, VFW, American Legion and The Chapter of The Purple Heart. He enjoyed camping and the many camping trips taken as a family, as well as outings with family and friends..  He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and tinkering with and fixing things.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; 7 children: LaVonne Barron and her husband Mervin of Montevideo, MN, Gerald Ladwig and his wife Diane of Rochester, MN, Jeannie Beveridge and her husband Jerry of Mankato, MN, Ronald Ladwig of Montevideo, MN, Lou Ann Streich and her husband Lloyd of Granite Falls, MN, Linda Wittrock and her husband Bruce of Marshall, MN and Alan Ladwig and his fiancé Denise Clark of Montevideo, MN; 14 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Ladwig of Arroyo Grande, CA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Lenny Barron;  a brother, Norman Ladwig; and a sister-in-law, Doris Ladwig.
