Orville H. Anderson was born June 4, 1910, at Hazel Run, MN, to parents, Gilbert and Ida (Husebo) Anderson. He was the only son, along with 4 sisters. When he was 4 years old, his mother passed away. Several years later, his father married Mathilda Droen and 5 brothers were born to them.
Orville was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He attended rural school and due to his fathers's health, he began working on the family farm at a young age. Later, he farmed near Hazel Run, Hanley Falls, and then moved to Dawson in 1951, where he continued to farm until retired at age 70.
Orville married Evelyn Borgendale at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson on June 22, 1946. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1996. Three children were born to this union: Janice, Karen, and Lowell.
Orville was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He loved traveling and adventures to new places. He and Evelyn spent winters in Arizona for 26 years, where he enjoyed meeting people and exploring the countryside. He continued his interest in farming and always wanted to see the progress of the crops each season.
For the past year and a half, Orville and Evelyn have resided at Orchard Estates in Glencoe. He passed away at the Glencoe Area Health Center on Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Janice Olson and husband John of Cannon Falls, MN; daughter, Karen Chastek and husband Lyle of Glencoe; son, Lowell and wife Laurie of Portland, OR; grandchildren: Jay, Jeremy, and Joshua Olson, Kim and Craig Chastek, and Hollie and Katie Anderson; one sister, Eunice Anderson of Minneapolis; brothers: Arley (Betty) Anderson of Tucson, AZ, and Marvin (Pernilla) Anderson and Erling (Stina) Anderson of Clarkfield; brother-in-law, Eugene Larson of Montevideo, along with many nieces , nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; 3 sisters: Erva Tongen, Lela Larson, and Vernice Dahl; and 2 brothers: Leon and Odean Anderson.
Funeral services were at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 9, 1998, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor's Paul Christopher and Kendall Stelter officiating. The scriptures used for the message were Psalm 23, Psalm 46, and Philippians 4:4-9. Special music of "My Friend and I" and "The Last Mile of the Way" were sung by Loren Norgaard and accompanied on the piano by his wife, Diane. The congregational hymns of "I Know Of A Sleep In Jesus' Name" and "My Faith Looks Up to Thee" were accompanied by the organist, Lynette Foss. The casketbearers were Jay Olson, Kim Chastek, Jeremy Olson, Craig Chastek, Hollie Anderson, Joshua Olson, Katie Anderson, and David Estling. Interment was in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson.
