Orvis F. Anderson, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 85.

Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 1:30 PM at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor Mike Altena officiating. Burial will be in the Graham United Methodist Cemetery near Rice, MN.

Orvis F. Anderson was born on November 1, 1921 in Centerville, SD to Elmer and Agnes (Conrad) Anderson.  He grew up in South Dakota and graduated from Irene High School in Irene, SD in 1939. On December 2, 1943 he was united in marriage to Gladys Scheel in Rice, MN.  He served in the US Army during World War II. He farmed near Rice, MN and worked at the V.A.Hospital  in St. Cloud before receiving a degree from St. Cloud State College. He began teaching school in Canby, MN in 1956, completing his Master’s Degree and continued as a counselor in the Canby schools.  In 1966 he moved to Montevideo where he worked as a school counselor until his retirement in 1987.  He was currently a member of Hope Reformed Church.  He had been an active member at several other churches  where he had been a Sunday School Teacher, held several church offices and served on a number of boards and committees.  He was a life member of the DAV and VFW, a member of the American Legion, was a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Canby and Montevideo Education Associations.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking.

He is survived by wife, Gladys; four children: Darrell (Andy) and his wife Marian of Montevideo; Connie Nuebel and her husband Ron of Northfield, MN; Vern Anderson and his wife Pam of Dawson, MN and Steve Anderson and his wife Robin of West Branch, IA; 9 grandchildren: Shawn, Eric, Troy and Tonya Nuebel, Angie Schrader, and Matt, Vince, Noah and Naomi Anderson; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Mae Huston of Sauk Rapids, MN; a sister-in-law, Verda Anderson of Foley, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ellsworth Anderson; a sister, Eunice Hartfiel; and two brothers-in-law, Willard Hartfiel and Lyle Huston.
