Oscar Weers

February 5, 1911 — January 31, 1994

Oscar H. Weers, of Montevideo, died on Monday January 31 at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison at the age of 82.  Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday February 3 at 10:30 A.M. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Alvin G. Lewis,Jr.  and Rev. Paulus Pilgrim officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.  Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Oscar Heinrich Weers was born on February 5, 1911 in Mason City, Iowa to Willie and Carolyn (Tageson) Weers.  He moved to the Morris, Mn. area in 1916 with his family and attended rural schools.  He was united in marriage to Mildred Ettesvold at the Etttesvold home on June 20, 1934.  They farmed in the Morris area until 1965 when they moved to Montevideo, where they operated the Viking Motel until retiring in 1977.  He was active in church and community affairs, including serving on township and school boards.  He enjoyed making grandfather clocks, including one for each of his children, and learned to play the organ at the age of 70, spending many happy hours with it.  He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

He is survived by his wife - Mildred; by a daughter - Arlene (Tom) Jens of Yalesville, Ct.; by sons - George (Sandy) of Marietta, Ga.; Harlan (Vesta) of Brandon, Fl.; and Darrel (Becky) of Fergus Falls,Mn.; 8 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by a sister - Elsie Roopenin and by a brother - Carl.
