Palmer Gilsrud

Palmer Gilsrud died Sunday, January 2, 2022 at his home in rural Montevideo at the age of 81.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  Rev. Kristine Isder will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service.  Arrangements are with Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Palmer Gilsrud, age 81, was born September 15, 1940 in Montevideo to Joseph and Olga (Oddan) Gilsrud and passed away peacefully in his lifelong home on January 2, 2022. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. He grew up on the family farm and dedicated his life to running it. Palmer graduated from Milan High School in 1958 and continued to live and work on the farm, first alongside his father and then continuing the work on his own until his retirement. He enjoyed the farm life and he excelled at it. After retirement he loved spending time at Indian Mounds Resort & Campground with his community of family and friends. Palmer had two great loves of his life, his wife Elvera who passed away in 1999 and his long-term partner Beth Zinda whom immediately preceded him in death.

Palmer is survived by sister, Janice (Duane) Anderson; sister-in-law Donna Gilsrud; nephew Ronald (Stephanie) Gilsrud; nieces: Pam (Duane) Matti, Angela (Wade) Gehlhoff and Sarah Grecula, and numerous great nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elvera, partner Beth Zinda, brother Roger Gilsrud and nephews Eric Gilsrud and Rod Gilsrud.

Palmer will be remembered for his kind heart, his fantastic sense of humor and his talent for connecting with people and making friends wherever he went.
