Paul Phillips

Paul Phillips, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at his home at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Paul Edward Phillips was born on July 23, 1922 in Granite Falls, MN to Clinton and Susan (Kiefer) Phillips. He attended school in Granite Falls and Montevideo. On October 19, 1943 he was united in marriage to Lois Mackey in Bremerton, WA. He served in the US Navy from June of 1944 until April of 1946. Upon his discharge, they returned to Montevideo, where they raised their six children: Tom, Patricia, Peggy, Peter, Jodi and Shelly. He operated a gas station for a number of years, worked at the Ford Garage for numerous years and taught in the Montevideo schools for seventeen years before retiring. Paul was active with the Montevideo Ambulance Service for thirty-three years, many of them as coordinator. He was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion and the VFW. He enjoyed racing, vacations, sporting events and was a big Twins fan. He also enjoyed fixing and building things. He is survived by his wife, Lois; children: Thomas (Rita) Phillips of Willmar, MN, Peggy (Lindsay) Little of Lino Lakes, MN, Jodi Phillips of Watertown, SD, and Shelly (Tim) Elkington of Montevideo, MN; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three children: Mary Ellen Phillips in infancy, Peter Phillips, and Patricia Tanhoff; a granddaughter, Jennifer Phillips; three sisters: Edith Phillips, Gladys Halverson, and Lucille Steinbach; and by a brother, Clyde Phillips.
