August 2, 1924 — October 28, 2014

Pearl Nelson of Dawson, died Tuesday morning, October 28, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, MN at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pearl Nelson was born August 2, 1924 in Dawson, MN. to Marie and Haakon Thompson.She was a lifelong member of Rivererside and Grace Lutheran Church. She graduated from Dawson High School and worked at Bates Hardware.  On October 7, 1944 she was united in marriage to Leslie Nelson.  With the exception of Les' military years at the beginning of their marriage, Pearl and Les were rarely apart.  They shared most everything including bowling, square dancing, playing cards, making donuts and krumkake.  A true love story.Pearl enjoyed sewing and made both of her daughter's wedding dresses and all of her square dancing dresses.

She is survived by her five children: Howard (Terri) of Ponte Vedra, FL, Peggy (Tom) Smith of Lakeville, MN, Michael (Cindy) of Freeland, MI, Kate (Will) Koshnick of Seattle, WA, and Craig (Karen) of Kennebunk ME;13 grandchildren: Andrea and Jeffrey Nelson, Christine (Travis) Goodfellow, Sarah (Patrick) Smith-Larkin, Andrew Smith, Ryan Erger, Brian (Candida) Nelson, Jody Von Oppen, Adam Nelson, Damian (Jennifer) Koshnick, Kali (Brian) Jones, Marit (Mixon) Nelson and Greta (Rory) Sanborn ;10 great-grandchildren: Coral (Jacob) Wulff, Hunter and Heather Goodfellow, Thomas and Olivia Larkin, Taylor and Dylan Von Oppen, Tallulah, Matilda, and Esme Pearl Jones; a great-great-granddaughter, Audrey Wulff; nieces: Kaye Thompson and Barb Askew; nephews: Ronnie Haugen, and Paul and Randy Pray; three sisters-in-law: Jean Thompson, Winnie Nelson and Bernice Nelson.

Preceding her in death was her husband of 60 years, Leslie Nelson; her parents; two brothers: Ted and Hank Thompson; two sisters: Ruth Pray and Cora Haugen and daughter-in-law, Kirsten Nelson.

August 2 nd , 2014, Pearl’s family gathered in Dawson to celebrate her 90 th birthday. Pearl was fullof life, smiles and giggles with all of us. A heartfelt thank you to the people at Johnson Memorial Care Center for the years of love and care for our mother. Donations can be made to the Rice Hospice/Dawson, Grace Lutheran Church or The Johnson Memorial Care Center/Bus fund. We all loved Pearl so much, as a Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister-in-law, Aunt and Friend. We will speak her name often.                               Blessed Be Her Memory.
