Peter Kvistero, 88, of Montevideo, died Friday, August 17, 2001 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo. Rev. Gregory Gabriel will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday after 3:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.
Peter Christian Kvistero was born August 29, 1912 in Yellow Medicine County, MN the son of Oluf and Martha (Agre) Kvistero. He was confirmed at Rock Valley Lutheran Church of rural Echo in the last class conducted there in Norwegian. He graduated from West Central School of Agriculture of Morris in 1930. Earlier this year, he celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary to Gunhild Mikkelson, whom he married in a ceremony at the Minnesota Valley Lutheran Church in rural Louisburg on March 16, 1941. They moved to Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN in 1948 where they farmed. Peter was active at Jevnaker Lutheran Church where he especially enjoyed teaching Sunday School. He was an avid reader, with a special interest in local and world news. He performed community service by serving on numerous local committees and boards. Peter enjoyed friendly card games and developed a lasting interest in bridge. He enjoyed travel and his interest in genealogy led him to Norway several times where he visited with relatives from the Old World.
He is survived by his wife, Gunhild; four children: Orlan Kvistero and his wife JoAnn of Detroit Lakes, MN, Keith Kvistero and his wife Marlys of Milan, MN, Marie Kvistero of Minneapolis, MN, and Linda Jorgenson of San Francisco, CA; seven grandchildren: Allan Kvistero, Kevin (Marlene) Kvistero, Julie (Chad) Tripp, Aaron Kvistero, Sarah Kvistero, Ryan Raaum, and Ben Jorgenson; five great-grandchildren: Michael, Diane, Dalton, Braydin, and Cole Kvistero; and nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one great-granddaughter, Zoey Rose Tripp; two brothers: Harold and Melvin; and two sisters: Julia Olson and Esther Iverson.
