Phillip Boyd Aamot was born October 10, 1924 in Tunsberg Township, Chippewa County to John and Bertha (Lund) Aamot. He grew up in the Watson area attending country school and then Milan High School, graduating in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was deployed to the Aleutian Islands. On June 8, 1947, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Hodge at the Methodist Church in Montevideo. They lived in Minneapolis for a short time before moving to the family farm near Watson where he farmed until retirement. Phillip and Geraldine moved to Brookside Manor in Montevideo in 2011 and in July of 2013 moved to the Clara City Care Center. He was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church where he was baptized, confirmed, and served as the custodian from 1948 until the church closed.
Phillip loved horses and especially harness racing. Phillip and Geraldine enjoyed camping and for many years never missed camping at the Minnesota State Fair. Even though he had never golfed, he enjoyed watching golf on TV. He read the opinion page of the newspaper before anything else and was fascinated with politics. His family remembers him as a very well informed person. One of his greatest hobbies was to socialize with anyone, anytime and anywhere. He will be remembered by his family as a loving, humble, compassionate and caring father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Phillip is survived by his children; Mike (Barb) Aamot of Red Wing, MN, Gayle (Jon) Blom of Lakeville, MN, and Jim (Lynette) Aamot of Montevideo, MN; grandchildren; Wendy Jones, Kellie Tadych, Eric Blom, Jill Gregory, Matt Aamot, Nikky Aamot, Hope Walburn, and Amanda Meixelsperger; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Geraldine in March of 2014; an infant son, Steven; and siblings: Clifford, Verdie, twin brother Paul, Phemie, Frances and Lyla.
