Phyllis Levitz, of Maynard, died on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Bethesda Heritage Center in Willmar at the age of 81. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Maynard Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Phyllis Elaine (Johnson) Levitz was born on June 14, 1930 in rural Chippewa Co, MN to William P. and Edna (Peterson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church in rural DeGraff, MN. She attended rural school and Maynard Public School. On June 3, 1947 she was united in marriage to Bernard (Barney) Levitz. Most of her life was in the Maynard area, where she was a cook at the school for a number of years and helped out at Budger's Dinner House. She was a long-time member of Maynard Lutheran Church and was active in the Women of the ELCA., was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Homemakers Club. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, bird watching, camping, the cabin on Lake Florida and the activities and visits of her grandchildren. She is survived by daughters: Lorri (and Bill) Beasley of Maynard; Cindy Krueger of St. Peter, MN; and Heidi Boike of Maynard; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Levitz of Alexandria, MN; eight grandchildren: Kristy (Ron) Eastlund; Marty Levitz; Jessica (Eric) Thrasher; Sara (Ryan) Haukos; Dana Beasley; Ben (Katie) Krueger; Dan (and fiance Kerstin) Boike; and Isaac Boike; four great grandchildren: Levi, Taylor, Alexis and Desteny; a brother, Donald Johnson of Colorado; a sister, Delores Hill and her husband Ken of Montevideo; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Barney in 1984; a son, Lon Levitz; a daughter, Vicki Levitz Van Heuveln; two brothers, Robert and William Johnson; and by three sisters: Arlene Fransen, LaVon Bang and Thelma Johnson.
