Phyllis Saue, of Montevideo, died Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84.

Phyllis Rose (Nordby) Saue was born June 8, 1930, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Oscar and Tilda (Flaten) Nordby. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1948.  Phyllis was united in marriage with George Saue on September 18, 1949 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  She enjoyed the structure of work outside the home, and worked as an assistant to an attorney John Haave.  She alson worked for Farmers Home Administration at the Chippewa County Courthouse for 38 years, where she retired in 1990.  Not a friend of idleness, she then went to work part-time as secretary at Parkview Towers until a few months ago.   While George was overseas during the Korean conflict, she used her own prowess to purchase a home for herself and their infant.  She was a friend to many and enjoyed regular meetings with her “sewing” club, but lately was quick to add, “We haven’t sewn in more than thirty years.”   Phyllis enjoyed playing cards and dancing, and her organization and secretarial skills were superior.   For over seventy years, she kept in touch with her Australian pen pal, the sister of a friend of her brother’s from WWII.

Phyllis and George took many trips and cruises, including Alaska and Norway and at least 50 trips to San Francisco to visit their daughter and family.  She will be remembered for her kindness and ever-willing hospitality.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dale) Zwiaska of Novato, CA; three grandsons: Alec  (Susan), Todd, and Scott Zwiaska; a great-grandson, Colin Zwiaska; and a sister, Delores (Dan) O’Connell of Dillingham, AK.

Preceding her in death were her husband, George Saue; her parents; and three brothers: Archie, Harold, Robert Nordby.
