Phyllis “Tommy” Kamla died on Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Maplewood Care Center in Maplewood, MN at the age of 88.
Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, June 16, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Chapel with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Phyllis Irene “Tommy” (Waldron) Kamla was born on August 4, 1916 in Montevideo, MN to Walter and Gertrude (Carlson) Waldron. She grew up in Montevideo where she was a member of the Baptist church and graduated from Montevideo High School. She later attended the Minnesota School of Business and worked for a few years as a bookkeeper in the Montevideo Area. She was united in marriage to Alfred Ronald “Ron” Kamla on March 26, 1939 in Montevideo. To this union two children were born: Richard and Joanne Kay. Baby Joanne died at the age of 11 months. After retirement, Ron and Tommy relocated to Mission, TX to a mobile home park. They built a year round home there in 1984. They moved back to Montevideo in 2000. She has been a resident of the Maplewood Care Center in Maplewood for the past year. She enjoyed bowling and golf. She was a good golfer and won several tournaments in Texas in her age group. She was a “lefty” and a straight shooter. Tommy could put on a dinner party with the best, she loved to entertain and often died, especially after moving to Texas.
She is survived by a son, Richard of Maplewood, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Ron in 2004 and one daughter, Joanne.
