Randolph Windingstad, died suddenly Monday afternoon, November 18, 2013, at the Douglas County Hosptial in Alexandria after successful hip surgery at the age of 91.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 11:00 A.M. at the Providence Valley Lutheran Church in rural Dawson. Pastor Cheryl Matthews will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Randolph Leslie Windingstad was born August 17, 1922 to Albert and Tina (Holmquist) Windingstad and attended country school until the 8th grade when he quit school to help his father on the family farm. He married Inga Nelson October 3, 1953 at the Garfield Lutheran Church in rural Madison and bought the family farm from his parents in 1955. They had three children, Nancy, Valerie and Reginald. He farmed 350 acres south of Dawson and continued to do the planting and spraying on the land until he retired at the age of 85. He also was an insurance agent for 60 years for Farmers Union Insurance. He moved from the farmstead in Providence after a fire in 1993 to Cottonwood corners where he resided until his death.
Randolph belonged to Providence Valley Lutheran Church for his entire life where he was baptized and confirmed. He also taught confirmation and Sunday school and was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood. Randolph was active in the Dawson senior citizens group and enjoyed playing cards every Wednesday. He was active in DFL politics and always enjoyed a good argument. He also was active in Sons of Norway Nornen 41 of Madison and was president during their centennial celebration. He enjoyed collecting Minneapolis Moline tractors. He was a devoted care provider for his disabled son, Reggie who has MS.
He is survived by his son, Reginald of Dawson, MN; two daughters: Nancy (Walt) Amble of Hastings, MN and Valerie (Doug) Ascher of Plymouth, MN; three grandchildren: Lisa and Brian Amble and Ryan Ascher; several nieces and nephews: Joan Peterson of Alexandria, MN, Eloise Tufto of Dawson, MN, Carol Wagner of Tulsa, OK, Dale Breberg of Dawson, MN, Harlan Parker of Atlanta, GA, Ervin Parker of Crystal, MN; and sister-in-law, Anita Nelson of Montevideo, MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife Inga in 2003; two sisters: Judith (Erwin) Bruss and Jeanette (Fred) Breberg; and his niece, Lela (Gary) Carlson.
