Randy Slocum

Randall “Randy” M. Slocum, 70, of Gilbert, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa.

Funeral services  were held on  Thursday, April 28, 2022, at the church.  Following the funeral service cremation will take place.

Randy was born December 11, 1951, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the son of Willard W. and Betty C. Slocum. He graduated from Willowbrook High School in Villa Park, Illinois and then Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education.

Randy was united in marriage to Katherine Kiroff on May 25, 1974, in Montevideo, Minnesota. Together, they were members of the Des Moines Symphony for many years, having met at their first symphony rehearsal. They were also founding members of the local variety band, Kris Kros, playing engagements for over forty years throughout the state of Iowa.

Randy and Kathy were owners of a chain of video stores. Randy was a member of IATSE Local 67, working as an Audio Technician at major venues in Des Moines and Ames. He was a gifted musician and a passionate advocate for musicians’ rights.

Randy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy Slocum; brother, Greg (Andrea) Slocum; uncle, Cully Slocum; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
