Raymond Streed, of Milan, died Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Rev. Kristine Isder will officiate and interment will be at Kviteseid Lutheran - Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be for one hour before the services at the church.
Raymond Elwood Streed was born on July 24, 1926 in Milan, MN to Eric and Argina (Snelling) Streed. He was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church. He attended school in Milan and graduated in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp following high school where he worked on the engines of C46 airplanes. Raymond returned to Milan to continue in the family business, operating a service station and an oil company in Milan for 48 years. Ray was united in marriage on the “hottest day ever” , July 24, 1949 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church to Fern Volden. They had 3 children, Bruce, Susan and Paul.
Ray was a life long member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, serving as financial secretary, Bethel Bible Study teacher and on the church council. He was a member of the Milan Fire Department, Milan City Council and the Milan American Legion for almost 70 years. Ray enjoyed playing in a pool league, woodworking and fishing. Family remembers that he loved to visit, joke and tease others and he had a wonderful sense of humor.
Ray is survived by his wife of 69 years, Fern; children Bruce (Connie) Streed, Milan, MN, Susan (John) Vetter, Milan, MN, Paul (Barbara) Streed, Dodge Center, MN; eight grandchildren: David Streed, Montgomery, MN, Sarah (Peter) Kroells, Norwood Young America, MN, Laura (Dustin) Schroeder, Willmar, MN, Amy (Mike) Richter, Granite Falls, MN, Joshua (Sarah Nerdahl) Vetter, Milan, MN, Allyson (Tim) Bowman, LeCenter, MN, Amanda (Spencer) Schoeneman, Eagan, MN, Christopher (Katie) Streed, Burnsville, MN; seven great-grandchildren: Chase, Cole, Zoe, Makenna, Paige, Jade and Zane; and one brother: Ernest Streed, Montevideo, MN; one brother-in-law, Ralph Haugen, Plymoth, MN; as well as other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Eric and Argina; sisters: Florence Streed and Hazel Haugen; sisters-in-law Arlene Streed., Adelaide Blunck and Borghild Hein; brothers-in-law, James Blunck and Glen Hein; nephews: Greg Streed and Darrell Streed; and niece, Judy Johnson.
