Reuben Blom, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, June 7, 2007 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3 - 5 PM and with a prayer service at 5 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Reuben Gilmore Blom was born on July 24, 1921 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Alfred and Mathilda (Skogrand) Blom. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended school in District 11. He farmed for many years with his brother Arthur before retiring in 1986. He moved to Brookside Manor in Montevideo in 2002 and this past February became a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home. He was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of the Farmers Union. He enjoyed watching and feeding the birds, watching the Twins, going to movies and taking Sunday rides. He liked new cars and taking care of his yard, especially riding on his John Deere mower. His greatest interests were his nieces and nephews and their lives.
He is survived by a sister, Mavis Jorgenson of Montevideo; two sisters-in-law: Pat Blom and Millie Blom, both of Montevideo; sixteen nieces and nephews; and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Irene Gould, Pearl Tostenson and Esther Jorgenson; three brothers: Arthur Blom, Clifton Blom and Harris Blom; and by a nephew, Alan Blom.
