Reynold "Swede" Swenson

Reynold "Swede" Swenson, Dawson died on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Johnson Memorial Care Center at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 4-6 PM at Johnson Memorial Care Center Chapel with a prayer service at 6 PM.

Reynold Gilbert Swenson was born March 31, 1934 on a farm near Canby, MN the son of Rudolph and Gudrun (Helgemo) Swenson.  He was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church and attended school in a one room school in District 37.  He was united in marriage with Lorraine (Van Keulen) November 24, 1957 in Minneota.  They made their home in Canby and then moved to Dawson in 1963.  They had three children: Kathy, Loren, and Linda.  He started working at the age of 12 with a team of horses as a part of a threshing team with a couple of different farmers.  He enlisted with the US Army 13th Armored Division in 1953 and was discharged in 1955.  After his discharge, he worked at Canby Farm Coop gas station, drove truck for the Canby Creamery, drove semi-truck for AGP the bean plant in Dawson and also drove for Cliff Viessman.

In life he enjoyed going to church, ushering, Men’s Bible study, square dancing, polka music, camping, deer hunting, fishing and cutting fire wood.  He was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge.  He also liked shaking dice, playing cards and bingo, and visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Kathy Swenson, Loren (Mellisa) Swenson, and Linda Swenson - Bleess; grandchildren: Chelsey, Shawn and Jennifer; step-grandchildren: Brandon, Tommy, Anna-Mae and Isabelle; great-grandchildren: Isaiah and Noah; sisters: Mary Ann (Clarence) Huck, Rosalind Olson, Betty Kellen, and Carol (Ken) Erp; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Lorraine in 2011; daughter-in-law, Cathy Swenson; brothers-in-law: Milo Olson and Marvin Kellen.
