Rhoda Nelson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90. Services will be conducted on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in the Mandt Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Rhoda Pauline (Moen) Nelson was born on December 11, 1922 in Swift Co., MN to Ole and Mathilda (Hoass) Moen. She was baptized December 11, 1928 in Appleton. She grew up in Grace Township, attended rural schools and graduated from Benson High School. On June 26, 1948 she was united in marriage to Olaf Nelson at Mandt Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed in Mandt Township until moving into Montevideo in 1984.She was a long-time member of Mandt Lutheran Church, where she was active in congregational activities. Rhoda was currently a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rhoda and Olaf were active in the Sons of Norway, Hadeland Lag, Big Bend Barn Dance and loved to travel to Norway. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, cooking, canning, making lefse and baking bread. She liked to play cards and word games and raise flowers and gardening, calling herself a horticultural engineer.
Rhoda is survived a brother-in-law, Charles Thompson of Florida, a sister-in-law, Bev Moen of Montevideo and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Olaf in 1998; three brothers: Thorfin, Marvin and Everett Moen; and four sisters: Eleanor Thompson, Inez Meyer, Cotty Kvam and Annabelle Hofstad.
