Richard M. Boe was born June 7, 1905, in Lac Qui Parle Township, Lac Qui Parle County, to Lars and Christine (Boe) Boe. He was baptized at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church in rural Dawson and confirmed in Watson, MN.
He was united in marriage to Mae Thompson on March 2, 1925, in Madison. To this union Lloyd, Marcella, Marvin, Donald, Robert, and Curtis were born. They lived in Chippewa and Lac Qui Parle Counties and for a time in Minneapolis before making their home in Dawson. They lived in their home until entering the Johnson Memorial Home in February of 1997. He remained there until his death on Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at the age of 94.
Richard was a 'jack-of-all-trades.' He was a farmer and carpenter, did small engine repair, shingled houses, repaired windows and bicycles, and as a hobby, built bird houses and mini telephones.
He is survived by his wife, Mae of the Johnson Memorial Home; children: Lloyd (Virginia) of St. Louis Park, Marcella (Lewis) Beck of New Hope, Marvin (Donna) of Bemidji, Donald of Dawson, Robert (Dora) of Red Wing, and Curtis of Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters: Clara Anderson of Racine, WI, and Hazel Shigley of Broomfield, CO; and several nieces and nephews, other family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers: Thorvald and Gundar Boe; 3 sisters: Carrie Norby, Ellen Olson, and Myrtle Anderson; and daughter-in-law, Mary Boe on May 5, 2000.
