Richard Olson, of Montevideo, died on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 76. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Richard Delmer Olson was born on December 11, 1936 in Franklin, MN to Sander and Mable (Hanson) Olson. He was baptized in Franklin and moved with his family to the Watson, MN area as a young boy. After several years in Watson, the family moved to Montevideo. He was confirmed at Watson Lutheran Church on May 25, 1952 and attended Watson and Montevideo Public Schools. On June 27, 1959 he was united in marriage to Delores Wilkinson at the Montevideo Methodist Church. He worked for Montevideo Block & Tile, at Murphy Feeds for a short time and at Friendship Homes until retiring in 1998. Since his retirement he helped with the sugar beet harvest, worked at Walmart and worked with his son, Tony. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles, playing cards, spending time at the lake, reading about World War II and being with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Delores; two sons: Anthony (Tony) and his wife Ronda and Blane and his wife Mary, both of Montevideo; four grandchildren: Cara (and Bryan) Abel, Aric Olson, Lindsey Olson, and Kelsey Olson and two great grandchildren, Bryce and Kendra Abel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Kyle Olson; two brothers, John and Floyd Olson and by two sisters, Marlys Sandberg and Dorothy Wik.
