Richard Saltness, of Dawson, MN, died Thursday, January 12, 2012 in Montevideo, MN at the age of 78.

Graveside service was 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.

Richard Nyvold Saltness was born January 9, 1934 at Dawson, MN the son of Raymond and Alette (Nyvold) Saltness. He was baptized March 29, 1934 and confirmed March 21, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson. Richard graduated from Dawson High School in 1952. He started at the University of MN and the joined the Air Force in June of 1953. He was stationed at Keesler Airforce Base in Biloxi, MS. Dick worked for several companies in the Twin Cities as a graphic artist doing designs and layouts. He later started his own graphic arts business on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. Dick married Pam Honzl on July 7, 1972 at Watertown, SD. They lived in Mound, MN before they were divorced in 1981. He later did remodeling and carpentry. He was very creative. Dick loved sports of all kinds. He played center on the Dawson football team in high school. Richard loved hunting, fishing, playing pool, cards, and golfing. He worked crossword puzzles almost every day. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Saltness of Dawson; nephew, Michael (Patty) Twite; niece, Susan (Richard) Giogi; great-nieces: Krista and Julia Ramber and Katie, Megan, and Michelle Twite; and several cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Phyllis Rohaty.

He will be missed by many and especially the stories of his adventures and travels.
