Richard "Dick" Oleson

Richard "Dick" Oleson, of Montevideo, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Marie Eckberg will officiate, and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Rice Hospice in memory of Richard.

Richard Eugene Oleson was born on July 21, 1929 on the family farm in Montevideo to Martin and Clara (Wig) Oleson.  He was baptized at Saron Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  He attended Montevideo High School and went to accounting school in Minneapolis following graduation.  Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Telecky on December 1, 1973 at the United Congregational Church in St. Louis Park, MN.  They made their home on the farm near Montevideo with their two children: Kim and Kris.

Richard loved his family and enjoyed taking trips with them around the country. He also loved his grandchildren dearly and spent time with them often.  He found joy volunteering at the threshing shows, collecting tractors, tending to his flower garden, and reading. He was a history buff and was also proud of his own family origins and Norwegian heritage.

Richard was a generous man which was evident through his time spent volunteering with multiple organizations.  He was active with the Sons of Norway, the Historical Society, Meals on Wheels, and Heritage Hill.  He was also a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he was on the Senior Advisory Board.

Richard is survived by his wife, Barb; children: Kim (Matt) Franko of Castle Pines, CO and Kris (Bill) Patton of Shorewood, MN; and grandchildren: Noah and Janessa Franko and Ellery and Steeger Patton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin (Clara) Oleson and his sister, Hildegarde Oleson.
