Robert Albert Giese

January 7, 1920 — December 28, 1998

Robert Albert Giese was born on January 7, 1920, in Walter Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN, to Robert and Emilia (Ross) Giese. He was baptized at the Walter Lutheran Church on March 28, 1920, and was confirmed in 1936 at Ipswich, SD.  Bob entered the Army on January 14, 1942 at Fort Snelling and was honorably discharged at Camp McCoy, WI, on November 11, 1945.  Over 3 years of his service was spent overseas.  He was united in marrriage to Winifred Berndt on January 12, 1945, at his brides parent's home near Gary, SD.  They lived in Gary, SD, and rural Lac Qui Parle County, prior to moving to Dawson in 1949.  At his retirement Bob had worked for the Coop Oil Company as a tractor tire specialist for 31 years.  He kept busy with his painting, woodworking, reading, and walking.  He was active in the Strand-Saboe VFW Post #5247 and served Grace Lutheran Church as an usher.
Bob died suddenly on Monday, December 28, 1998, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 21 days.
He is survived by his wife, Winifred; daughters: Patricia (James) Holm of St. Bonifacius and Wendy (Roger) Mullins of Maple Grove; 4 grandchildren: Michael Holm of Plymouth, Jason Holm of Marshall, Lisa (Brad) Cook of Madison, WI, and Angela Mullins of Maple Grove; 2 brothers: William (Minnie) of Bellingham and Fred (Lyla) of Canby; 6 sisters: Alice Hanson of Madison, Esther Dosch of Lakeville, Martha Jones of Milbank, SD, Bertha Johnson of Canby, Eldora Ochsendorf of Dawson, and Virdeena (Kenneth) Knutson of Renville; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers: Charles and Max; and sisters: Leona Hanson and Amanda Stevenson.
He was everyones friend, always had a joke, never complained, and was always happy.
