Robert Grant Sr.

September 17, 1932 — July 13, 2016

Robert Grant Sr., of Milan, died Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 83.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan.  Rev. Kristine Isder will officiate and interment will be at Kviteseid Lutheran- Milan Methodist Cemetery in rural Milan.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 17,  2016 from 5-7 pm at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.

Robert Dale Grant Sr. was born September 17, 1932 in Benson, Minnesota to Arlow and Dagmar (Thompson) Grant  He attended school at Barduson school until 8th grade and then Milan High School graduating in 1950.  Bob served in the US Army in Alaska during the Korean Conflict.  He married Deanna Johnson on March 12, 1960 in Montevideo.  They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together along with 6  children.    Bob farmed and was an electrician for a period of time and then worked for the DNR until his retirement.  Bob entered the Appleton Care Center in October of 2014.

Bob enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, and hunting.  He once won a car in a bowling tournament. He was also active in the VFW and Milan Legion.  Bob loved to read Westerns and watch them on TV.  Bob was always able to find time to have coffee with friends in Milan. Family remembers Bob always enjoyed a good joke.

Robert  is survived by his wife, Deanna, children: Robert (Julie ) Grant of Montevideo, Debra Grant of Waseca,  Ricky (Kathy) Grant of Hutchinson,  Ryan (Joan) Grant of Milan, Dawn (Brad) Thorstad of Alexandria, and Reid Grant of St. Cloud; grandchildren: Lee Grant, Kelly Grant, Amanda Beninga, Matthew Grant, Nathaniel Grant, Jett Thorstad and Jaden Thorstad; great-grandchildren: Brendon Grant, Bentlee Grant, Bria Grant, Preston Drexler, Kylee Drexler, and Natalie Beninga; a brother Arlow (Jane) Grant Jr. of Milan;  sister, Mary (Karan) Schmiesing of Montevideo, MN and many other extended family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jerry in infancy.
