Robert "Kurtzy" Kurtzbein of Montevideo passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 75.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, with Pastor Michelle Rowell officiating.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Robert Kurtzbein was born on March 3, 1949, in Montevideo, to Edwin and Jean (Botten) Kurtzbein. He was baptized and confirmed at Saint John's Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo. Kurtzy attended Montevideo High School, graduating from the class of 1967. He married the love of his life, Nancy, in 1979 at Jevnaker Church in rural Montevideo. To this union, two sons were born: Jason and Matt. They made their home on the family farm east of Montevideo. Robert spent his life farming, working his last season in the fall of 2024. Kurtzy also spent many years working at the Fiesta City Liquor store in Montevideo. Robert will be remembered for his hard work and dedication to whatever he was doing.
Robert enjoyed his life as a grandpa. He was so proud of all of his grandkids and loved to follow them in all of their sporting events. He spent many days and nights watching any sport he could find, whether it was high school, college, or professional. Kurtzy spent his free time hunting, fishing, and gardening. He will be missed by many.
Kurtzy is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Jason (Tracy) Kurtzbein of Montevideo and Matt (Nicole) Kurtzbein of Cottage Grove; grandchildren, Averie, Quinn, Payton and Blake; a brother, John (Marge) Kurtzbein of Montevideo; sisters, Connie Wollschlager of Montevideo, and Janice Hagen of Bloomington, MN; a brother-in-law, Dean (Connie) Skogrand of Cottonwood, MN; a best friend of 50+ years, Tom Ryman; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Karla Hagen; in-laws, Marlowe (Mildred) Skogrand; brothers-in-law, Ron Wollschlager, Ed Hagen, and Dick Skogrand; and sister-in-law, Julie Roder.
