Robert Nelson, of Montevideo and formerly of Madison, died on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 74.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Borgund Lutheran Church of rural Madison, MN with Rev. Barbara Bruneau officiating.  Burial will be in the Ness Cemetery of rural Madison.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family present from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Robert Nelson was born on February 5, 1933 in Madison, MN to Rubin and Hannah (Roise) Nelson.  He grew up in rural Madison, attended rural schools and graduated from Madison High School.  He served in the U S Army, serving in during the Korean Conflict and stationed in Germany. On June 30, 1973, he was united in marriage to June Larson at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison.  They farmed and lived in rural Madison until moving to Montevideo about 10 years ago.  He was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and American Rifle Association.  He had enjoyed hunting in his younger days.

He is survived by three daughters: Paula Nelson of Wells, MN,  Rebecca Long and her husband Patrick of Madisonville, TN and Erica Contreras and her husband Francisco of Laredo, TX;  6 grandchildren, other relatives including Tami Zenk, Stacy Stanek and Bernie Stanek and a special friend, Edie Korhonen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June in 2002; and by a brother, James Nelson.
