Robert Agath Olson

Robert Olson, of Montevideo, formerly of Louriston Township, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Brookside Senior Living in Montevideo at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran church in Montevideo. Rev. Kent Borglum will officiate and burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Louriston Township.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Robert Agath Olson was born January 27, 1933 on the family farm in Louriston Township, MN to Agath and Caroline (Winters) Olson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Louriston Township.  Robert attended District 36 Country School until 8th grade and attended and graduated from Maynard High School in 1951.  After high school he began farming with his Father Agath and Uncle Alver (Clarence) on his Grandfather Peter Olson's farm which was established in 1875.  He was drafted into the US Army and served his country from 1953-1955. After returning from service, he continued farming for 60+ years in which he and his brother, Maurice, founded R & M Farms, Inc.  Robert was united in marriage to Sigrid Lund on April 6, 1963 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Baxter.  They made their home on Robert’s family farm and to this union three children were born.

Robert was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where he served as treasurer of the church and cemetery fund. He also was the caretaker for the cemetery for 55 years.  After the church closed in 1965, Robert and his family joined Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock where he served as financial secretary and head usher.  He was a 2020 Hall of Fame Honoree of the Chippewa County Historical Society. Robert and his wife were very active at Pioneer Village and were involved with many events. He enjoyed fishing, maintaining his fish tanks filled with a variety of fish, gardening, woodworking, and traveling on bus tours.

He is survived by his wife, Sigrid of Montevideo; daughters, Danelle (Troy) Groothuis of Maynard, MN, and Deborah (William) Donner of DeSmet, SD; son, Michael (Stephanie) Olson of Spicer, MN; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Korsmo, Kirsten (Joseph) Hutt, Nicholas (Jessica) Groothuis, Cassandra (Mason) Allinder, McKensi Donner, Robert Donner, and Makenna, Kaden, and Sidney Olson; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Abbigail, and Sophia Korsmo, Cohett and Keller Hutt, and Syd and Maisee Allinder; siblings, Merle (LaMerna) Olson, Carol (Ronald) Prekker, and Kenneth (Kathleen) Olson; sister-in-law, Carol Thorstad; and several extended family and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Maurice Olson.
