Robert Sulflow, of rural Maynard, died on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home at the age of 74. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Ronald Hobbie officiating. Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery of Havelock. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family present from 3-5 P.M. and with a prayer service at 3 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Robert Ervin Sulflow was born on December 1, 1936 in Montevideo, MN to Ervin and Grace (Schroeder) Sulflow. He was baptized on January 10, 1937 and confirmed on May 7, 1950, both at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock. He graduated from the Morris Ag School in 1954. He served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1954 - 1962, serving as a Motor Sergeant. On December 27, 1958 he was united in marriage to Gloria Jane Mueller at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Bellingham, MN. He was a life member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock and had served as a trustee and elder. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Maynard. Bob loved all aspects of farming and working with machinery. He often built or modified tools and equipment to get jobs done. He especially loved the early mornings with the cool temperatures and the sunrise. Bob farmed with his father until Ervin's retirement, then farmed and raised livestock with his wife and children until 1986. He worked for neighbors farming and ranching with the eland, deer and llama's. He retired in 1994 following an injury and health challenges. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially dancing and traveling with his wife, gardening, mowing the lawn, fishing, picking apples, playing cards, and watching football. He was a sharp shooter with a pistol and liked to hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his children and especially the grandchildren. He especially loved the babies. He had great respect for the military and was proud to have served in the National Guard for eight years. He is survived by his wife, Gloria, seven children: Nancy (Dennis) Ammermann of Clara City, MN; Barbara (Brian) Zaeska of Pennock, MN; Wayne (Julie) Sulflow of Lake Lillian, MN; Donald (Cindy) Sulflow of Montevideo; Candice (Marvin) Jaenisch and Steven (Heather) Sulflow, both of Maynard, MN and Jana (Andrew) Fjeldahl of Berthold, ND; twenty-four grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters: Karen (Alvern) Johnson of Clarkfield, MN; Betty (James) O'Connor of Benson, MN and Kathy (Melvin) Luepke of Bemidji, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin & Grace Sulflow.
