Bob Kemen died Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his home in Hamlin Township, rural Dawson, MN at the age of 93.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Madison. Fr. Craig Timmerman will preside and interment will be at the Dawson Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service.
Robert Roman Kemen was born December 8, 1925 in Hamlin Township, Lac qui Parle County, MN the son of Leo and Kathryn (Stoick) Kemen. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Michaels Parish in Madison and attended school in District #58. Bob then helped his family on the farm before entering the US Army. He served in Korea from 1951 until his discharge in 1953. After his discharge he returned home to work on the farm. Bob was united in marriage with Phyllis Martinson December 29, 1962 at St. Michaels Parish in Madison. They made their home on the farm west of Dawson where they raised four children. Bob enjoyed farming. They raised cattle, pigs, and chickens for eggs. He always felt is was important to serve in the community. He was on the Hamlin Town Board, Dawson Coop Credit Union Board, Lac qui Parle Mutual Insurance Board and St. James Church Council. He loved going to the lake and always took time to visit with people.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; four children: Dale (Desrae) Kemen of Madison, David (Traci) Kemen of Madison, Gary (Tobi) Kemen of Dawson, and Ann (Allan) Jenson of Dawson; nine grandchildren: Alyssa, Brock and Sadie Kemen, Brady and Marissa Kemen, Landon and Hattie Kemen, Amanda (Andrew) Thole, and Katie Jenson; one great-granddaughter, Quinn Thole; two sisters: Rosanne Olson of Bloomington and Bernetta Hagen of Roseville; two brothers: Jacob Kemen of St. Paul and Alfred (Theresa) Kemen of Madison; a sister-in-law, Donna Kemen of Montevideo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Maynard; brothers-in-law: Sherman Olson and Barney Hagen; and sister-in-law, Sonja Kemen.
