Roger Elden Anderson

February 23, 1930 — February 1, 1999

Roger Elden Anderson was born February 23, 1930, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN, to Victor and Phoebe (Warner) Anderson.  He was baptized at his parent's home on June 21, 1931, and confirmed at Our Savior's  Lutheran Church, Montevideo, on May 21, 1944, by Pastor John Mason, and  attended rural schools in Lisbon Township.
Roger entered the Army on January 11, 1949, and was honorably discharged on December 28, 1951, after serving in Korea with the 78th AAA Gun Battalion.
On August 23, 1952, Roger  was united in marriage to Phyllis Krugerud by Rev. Silas E. Erickson at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Montevideo, MN.  To this union, six children were born.
Roger worked as a hired farm hand in the Clarkfield, Tracy, and Granite Falls areas.  In 1957 he was employed as a caterpillar operator  for Thompson Construction of rural Cottonwood.  They moved back to the Dawson area in 1959, where he started to work for Larson Tiling, and to their present home in 1972.  He continued as a heavy equipment operator with Larson Tiling until his semi-retirement in 1998.
Roger died on Monday, February 1, 1999, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 68 years, 11 months, and 8 days.
Roger is survived by his wife, Phyllis; six children: David (Paula) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Terry (Jayne) of Lakewood, CO, Lynette (David) Fjerkenstad of Boyd, Brian of Delano, Susan (Bradley) Lokken of rural Montevideo, and James of Chaska; six grandchildren: Nathan, Matthew, Kelly, Darren, Kiri, and Olivia;  sisters: Iarud Ludvigson of Bloomington, Ione Falk and Vivian Anderson of Montevideo, and Lucille (Arthur) Hermanson of rural Boyd; brother, Gerald (Pat) Anderson of Tuscon, AZ; sister-in-law, Catherine Anderson of Montevideo; nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents;  brothers: Monrud and Arnold Anderson; sisters: Irene Froiland and Avanell Saue; and brothers-in-law: Marien Ludvigson, Alfred Froiland, Edwin Falk, Clifford Anderson, and Clifford Saue.
He enjoyed hunting, camping, traveling, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, other family, and especially his wife, Phyllis.  Roger was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, which later merged to Grace Lutheran Church.  He was also a member of the Strand Saboe VFW Post #5247 of Dawson.
