Roger Rear

August 8, 1926 — March 16, 2010

Roger Rear, formerly of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Rice Care Center in Willmar at the age of 83. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 1:30 P.M.. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Ehling officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Roger Rear was born on August 8, 1926 in Milan, Mn to Joseph and Louise (Anderberg) Rear. He grew up in the Milan area and attended rural schools. He served in the US Army during WWII, serving in the South Pacific. On July 16, 1950 he was united in marriage to Helen Hoaas in Milan. He lived most of his married life in Montevideo, where he owned and operated D & R Auto Repair with his brother. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW and the American legion. He enjoyed old-time music, gardening, playing the accordion, fishing, hunting and dancing. He volunteered to play accordion at Luther haven Nursing Home, Granite Manor and at Senior Citizen Center dances. He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children: Claire Marsh of Maplewood, MN; Linda (and Gary) Cliplef of Poway, CA; Scott Rear of Spicer, MN and Vickie (and Jerry) Rooda of Willmar, MN; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a great-grandson, Paxton Nelson; four brothers and seven sisters.
