Roger Wik, of Watson, died on Saturday, November 18, 2006 at his home in Watson at the age of 79.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at 2:00 PM at the Watson Lutheran Church in Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family present from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Roger Griffin Wik was born on January 18, 1927 in Montevideo, MN to Jasper and Betty (Berg) Wik.  He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Watson, MN.  He attended school in Montevideo, Watson and Aberdeen, SD. He served in the US Navy, spending 2 ½ years in the South Pacific, taking part in the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.  He was in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese signed the surrender.  On October 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Olson in Montevideo.  He worked for REC for 37 years as a lineman and crew chief and for nine years part-time reading meters and checking trees. He was a member of the Watson Lutheran Church and the VFW.  He enjoyed doing lawn work and raising roses.  He was a care giver for his wife Dorothy for a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Bradford Wik and his wife Janis of Watson, MN; two daughters: Cheryl Flinn and her husband Donald of Aberdeen, SD and Madeline Nielsen and her husband Rodney of Watson, MN; four granddaughters: Jackie (Robert) Lefforge, Deenna and Jessica Anspach and Tessa Jo Fossen; two brothers: Jerry (Barbara) Wik of Blaine, MN and Raymond (Marilyn) Wik of Aberdeen, SD; two sisters: Margaret (Russel) Krause of Rock Hill, SC and Wendy (Jerry) Opsahl of Aberdeen, SD; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Cora (Emery) Wik; two sons, Joel and one in infancy; an infant daughter, Jean; two brothers-in-law: John and Floyd Olson; and two sisters-in-law: Marlys Sandberg and Delores Olson.
