Roland Severson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Chippewa Co-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Roland Claire Severson was born on August 7, 1925 in Sparta Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Clarence and Mabel (Olson) Severson. He was baptized on September 27, 1925 and confirmed on April 30, 1939 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and attended Rosewood Township School District #24. He served in the US Army during World War II. He was a long-time farmer in Sparta Township, retiring in 1996. On September 26, 1964 he was united in marriage to Mildred Paulsrud at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He was a member of Brono Lutheran and Our Saviors Lutheran Churches. He was a member American Legion Post #59 and the MN Valley Antique Farm Power and Machinery Association, serving as it's President for two years. He liked to work and refinish old antique tractors and trucks. In 2008 he moved into Montevideo with his wife, and was currently a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Janna (and Mark) Kovach of Lakeville, MN and a son, James Severson of Alexandria, VA; two step-grandchildren: Dustin and Courtney; a sister, Loraine Lien of Montevideo; double cousins: Marjorie Lee of Montevideo and Dona Borstad of Madison, MN; and a sister-in-law, Inez Paulsrud of Montevideo He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, James Lien.
