Roland "Bud" Jerve

Roland “Bud” Jerve, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, April 19, 1998 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 72.

Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, April 25, 1998 at 10: 30 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton and Rev. Douglas Olson officiating.

Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.  There will be no visitation or reviewal.  Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Roland Jerve was born on January 2, 1926 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, Minnesota, to Anton S. and Ragnhild (Thompson) Jerve.  He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church by Rev. C.T. Jenson.  He received his education at District 17 and Milan High Schools.  At the age of 17 he enlisted in the US Navy and received his basic training at the Farragut, Idaho Naval Base.  He shipped out to Treasure Island, California, where he was assigned as a ship cook on the USS Robin Wentley, a troop transport.  During WW II Bud made fourteen trips across the Pacific between the states and various South Pacific Islands. After his discharge in March of 1946, he returned to Minnesota and worked as an electrician.  He was united in marriage to Violet Evenson of Benson, MN at the Swenoda Lutheran Church.  Bud continued to work as an electrician until 1951 when the family moved to Wichita, KS, where he was employed by Boeing Aircraft.  In 1954 the family returned to Milan where Bud managed the Milan Mutual Telephone Co. for several years.  In 1963 the family moved to Big Lake, MN where Bud was employed by the Sherburne County Telephone Co.  In 1973 he worked as an on-site engineer for Communications Consultants out of Fargo, ND.  Later Bud and Violet owned and operated the Star Motel in Glencoe, MN, as well as several Country Kitchen restaurants in Minnesota and Iowa.  He was currently living in Montevideo, MN and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  He was a life member of the VFW as well as a member of the Montevideo American Legion.  While in Milan he was a member of the Lions Club and served as Commander of the Milan American Legion.  When he lived in Big Lake, Bud served as a Deacon of Saron Lutheran Church of Big Lake and became a member of the Sons of Norway.

He is survived by his wife, Violet; two sons: Rodney Jerve and his wife Janet of Minneapolis, MN and Mark Jerve and his wife Maryjo of St. Louis Park, MN; five grandchildren: Anton and Anna Jerve of Minneapolis, MN and Noah, Melina and Tyrus Jerve of St. Louis Park, MN; one brother, Reuben Jerve and his wife Frances of Milan, MN; two sisters: Agnes Dvergsten and Tilla Schuerer, both of Montevideo, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Tosten, Sherman, Gerhard and Julian Jerve; and three sisters: Kari Lauritsen, Marlys Skogrand and Lillian Larson.
