Ronald Koopman

April 20, 1925 — June 3, 2013

Ronald Koopman, of Montevideo, died on Monday, June 3, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 88.  Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with Pastor Ronald Hobbie officiating.   Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 7 P.M at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home.

Ronald Alvin Koopman was born on April 20, 1925 in Fulda, MN to Fred and Julia (Busch) Koopman.  He was Baptized on May 10, 1925 at Fulda, MN and confirmed on April 2, 1939  at Iona, MN.  In 1942 he moved with his family to a farm in Rosewood Township of Chippewa, County, MN.  He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1943 and worked on the family farm.  On September 21, 1952 he was united in marriage to Louise Rosebrock.  He continued farming until moving into Montevideo in 1974.  He worked for Ivan’s Service Center for a number of years. On April 30, 2013 he entered the Clara City Care Center.  He enjoyed traveling and sightseeing to Europe and the southern and western States.  He enjoyed playing cards, working on puzzles and woodworking. He especially enjoyed going to auctions and collecting matchbook covers, of which he has over 90,000.

He is survived by a son, Richard “Dick” Koopman of Montevideo; a  daughter, Joyce (and Steven) Segebart   of Sioux City, IA; a sister, Beatrice Strampe of Slayton MN; a brother, Fred (and Bonnie) Koopman of Starbuck, MN, four grandchildren: Jason (Melissa)  Koopman of Montevideo, Kelle LaNore of Isanti, MN, and Melissa Segebart and Amanda Segebart, both of Sioux City, IA; two great-grandchildren: Abby and Kyle LaNore; as well as by several nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a  daughter, Carol Milburn in 1996.
