Rose Wallien, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, June 13, 1998 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 88.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, June 17, 1998 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Douglas Olson officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Rose Martha (Janke) Wallien was born on March 12, 1910 in Moyer Township of Swift Co, MN to Rudolph and Minnie (Kohler) Janke. She was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Church near Holloway, MN and attended rural schools at District 2. On January 1, 1934 she was united in marriage to Milford (Mel) Wallien in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo for several years before moving to Browns Valley, MN in 1948. In 1962 they moved back to Montevideo, where she has resided since. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 6 years. She worked at Swift & Co for many years in Montevideo and Browns Valley and worked for a number of years as a waitress at the Mohawk Café. Rose was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary and was a member of Homemakers. She was a good baker, enjoyed crocheting and craft work.
She is survived by a son - Gary Wallien and his wife Vicki of San Angelo, TX; grandchildren - Eric Gene Wallien and his wife Kim of Duluth, MN and Andrew Wallien of San Angelo, TX; great grandchildren - Andrew, Erica and Gary Wallien; sisters - Mildred Janke and Leona Janke, both of Appleton, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Mel in 1977, brothers - Reuben, Harold and Melvin Janke; sisters - Adeline Janke and Ann Mehlhouse and half sisters - Alma Hadrath and Esther Ellinger.
