Roy Stanford Gilbertson

Roy Gilbertson, 86, of Montevideo, died Monday, October 29, 2001 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 2, 2001 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Warren Broughton officiated and interment was at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon and evening  and with the family from 6-7:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo

Roy Stanford Gilbertson was born July 4, 1915 at Watson, MN the son of Gerhard and Selma (Falla) Gilbertson.  He was confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church, October 20, 1929 and attended rural schools in District #31.  Roy served in the US Marine Corps during WW II from 1941-1945 in the Pacific Theatre.  He was united in marriage with Eleanor Weckhorst November 24, 1945 at Louisburg, MN.  After their marriage they farmed in Mandt Township until 1968.  They moved into Montevideo and  Roy worked for the City of Montevideo from 1968 until 1980 and as the  sexton at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  He was a member of the VFW, served as an officer and Sunday School teacher at Mandt Lutheran Church and was currently  a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.  He loved his family and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; three sons: Allen (Debra) Gilbertson of Hawick, MN, Lynn (Carol) Gilbertson of St. Michael, MN, Ron Gilbertson of Montevideo, MN; one son-in-law, Miles Ashburn of Windom, MN; seventeen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers: Verdie (Agnes) Gilbertson  of Montevideo, MN, Curtiss (Lou) Gilbertson of Appleton, MN, and Lyle (Ruby) Gilbertson of Montevideo, MN; and three sisters: Clarice (Clifford) Olson of Appleton, MN, Mildred Armstrong of Montevideo, MN, and Vernice (Astor) Underthun of Willmar, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Nancy; a great granddaughter, Hannah Marie Gilbertson, one brother, Earl and a brother-in-law, Lowell Armstrong.
