Roy York, of Dawson, died unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, May 21, 2011, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, at the age of 63. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with Pastor Erik Carlson officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Roy Raymond York, Jr. (Royboy) was born May 24, 1947, to Roy Sr. and Ida (Peterson) York of Baldwin, WI. Roy was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in St. Paul. He was raised in Racine, WI, and completed his schooling there. Not to be kept in one place, Roy became a truck driver and trucked both locally and over the road while living in Wisconsin. On May 22, 1999, he married Debra (Carlson) and lived in Kenosha, WI. They moved to Dawson in 2000 and Roy started working for Viessman's Trucking and finally retired from there in 2009. After retirement, he decided life was a little too laid back and went back to work for them driving part time. Also keeping him busy was washing the big rigs that came in over the weekend. Roy loved everything outdoors. Fishing and camping were a great joy to him. He also enjoyed gardening, bowling, woodworking, playing board and card games, watching pro-wrestling and most of all, spending time with his family, especially his pride and joy, Emma-Rose. He is survived by his wife, Deb; seven children: Judith Robinson of Ocala, FL, Becky Eusey of Baton Rouge, LA, Jessica (Andre) Smith of Curtis, WI, Roy (Nicky) York III of Stetsonville, WI, Jameson York of East Troy, WI, Justin Schaefer of Willmar, MN and Michael Swieczkowski of Dawson, MN; eleven grandchildren: Dustin, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Ricky, Hannah, Kendra, Deondra, John, Jason, Jessica and Emma-Rose; 7 brothers: Russ Scharr of CA, Roger (Marlene) Scharr, Dennis (Shelly) York, Greg Highman, Bobby Highman, Billy York, and Chuck Highman, all of WI; two sisters: Joyce (Al) Smith of WI, and Glenda Fleuter of IL; parents-in-law: Milton and Mary Carlson of Dawson and Barb and Bruce Braynard of Luck, WI; sisters-in-law: Roxanne (Ryan) Smith of FL, Pegi (Jerry Harberts) Carlson and Cyndi Carlson of Dawson; brother-in-law: Ron (Kristin) Carlson of Hanover, MN; many neices and nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother , Jimmy Highman. He was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew him.
