Royal Olson

December 14, 1919 — August 20, 2017

Royal Olson of Montevideo, died Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Pastor Sam Kautz officiating.  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Visitation with the family will be held at the church one hour prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30 AM the day of the service.

Royal Allen Olson was born on December 14, 1919 in Leenthrop Township to Allen and Rose (Kling) Olson.  He attended country school in Leenthrop Township near his home.  Farming was in his blood and he farmed all his life.  He married Norma Jane Stewart on February 15, 1941 at Norma’s home in Grace Township, Chippewa County.  They had 6 children.

Royal was active in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities. Royal was a 4-H leader for many years.  He participated in state and national corn husking after his retirement as well. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.  Royal and Norma wintered at Riverwoods Plantation, Florida and they also enjoyed traveling to many other places. They especially enjoyed Alaska.

Royal is survived by his wife, Norma; his children: Ray (Sharon) Olson, Lois (Duane) Bonde, Arlene (Jim) Kranz, and Linda Blostad; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters: Leona Lyngen and June Krogstad; as well as extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Shirley Ann Olson and Janice Marie Olson; two brothers: Dwain Olson and Jule Olson; a sister, Dorothy Larson; and several in-laws.
