Ruben Winge, of Dawson, died December 19, 2016 peacefully in his home at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Crossroads Lutheran Congregation Church in Dawson with Pastor Sarah Carlstrom officiating. Interment will be in the Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Ruben Manford Winge was born December 30, 1923 in Riverside Township to Manford and Josie (Thorson) Winge. He attended rural school through third grade, then attended Dawson Public Schools and graduated from Dawson High School in 1943. In 1944, he entered into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Camp Carson, Colorado. He was sent overseas to Germany with the Combat Engineers. He returned home in April of 1946. Ruben started in road construction and road grading with his father, Manford. In 1950, he started farming and continued for 45 years.
On June 19, 1949, he married Donna Ihrke of Altamont, SD at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD and to this union four children were born. Ruben served on the District #6 School Board until they consolidated. He was a member of the Strand-Saboe VFW Post in Dawson, the American Legion of Dawson, and the D.A.V. Chapter #24. Ruben was also a member of Atelier Masonic Lodge of Dawson for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shooting, and bowling. He was a longtime active member of Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church and currently was a member of Crossroads Lutheran Congregation Church in Dawson.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons: Robert (Rebecca) Winge of West Fargo, ND and Gary Winge of Montevideo, MN; two daughters: Vicki (Dennis) Kohlman of Appleton, MN and Denise Schilling of Dawson, MN; 7 grandchildren: Sarah Winge, Leah Winge, Nathan Winge, Michael Winge, Michael (Hope) Mammele, Samantha Quigley, and Kirsten Winge; 5 great-granchildren: Dominic, Kara, Lauren, Landon, and McKenna; sister-in-law, Ramona Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son-in-law, Bruce Schilling; a great-grandson, Phillip Quigley; two sisters: Avis Harris and Sonja Winge; and an infant brother, Paul Winge.
