Ruby Anderson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 98. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 18, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Tim Wheatley officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Watson. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. . Ruby Amy (Simpson) Anderson was born on September 21, 1912 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa County, MN to Samuel and Anne (Vellekson) Simpson. She was baptized on December 1, 1912 and confirmed on September 19, 1926 by Pastor E.I. Strom at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Watson. Ruby attended Rural School District 28 for seven years and passed a State Exam which allowed her to skip the eighth grade. Ruby then attended Montevideo High School, graduating in 1930. Following graduation she attended Minneapolis Cosmetology School and became a beautician. She continued that occupation for 50 years, the majority of those years she owned and operated her own beauty shop in her home in Hector, MN. Ruby was loved by her many loyal customers. They demonstrated that love by bringing her gifts, baking goodies, and garden supplies, especially during the holidays. On May 6, 1939 she was united in marriage to Marvin Anderson. Marvin was a line man for Northern States Power Company and worked in Montevideo, Clara City, Gaylord and in Hector, where the main station was located. Ruby was a member of First Lutheran Church in Hector and was currently a member of Our Saviors Lutheran in Montevideo. Ruby and Marvin loved to travel and she collected plates from all the places they visited. In addition, she loved to do cross stitch, do crossword puzzles, and play card games and dominos. She loved to entertain company and was a good cook. Ruby truly loved people and thought the best of them. Her nieces and nephews played an important role in her life. She is survived by two nieces: Frances Zubrod of Boulder City, NV and Evelyn Duga of Berwyn, IL; four nephews: Albie Gilsrud of Austin, MN, Robert Gilsrud of Richmond, MN, George Emmerith of Chicago, IL, and Roger Nelson of TX; and several grand nieces and nephews. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents: Samuel and Anne; her husband, Marvin; her brother, Ernest Simpson; her four sisters: Lila Nelson, Hazel Addison, Frances Gilsrud, and Effie Lapagila; and one niece, Kerrine Thomson.
