Ruby (Nelson) Arends

April 18, 1918 — March 13, 1995

Ruby Arends, formerly of Gluek and Granite Falls, died on Monday March 13, 1995 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevieo at the age of 76.  Funeral services will be conducted on Friday March 17, 1995 at 1:30 P.M. at the Granite Falls Lutheran Church with Rev. Bruce Kuenzel officiating.  Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Clara City.  Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7 - 8 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Ruby Eleanor (Nelson) Arends was born on April 18, 1918 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Adolph and Sanna (Ericksen) Nelson.  She was baptized  at Maynard Lutheran Church  and confirmed by her late uncle - Rev. M.B. Ericksen, also at Maynard Lutheran Church.  She attended Maynard schools and graduated from Maynard High School in 1936.  She was united in marriage to John Arends on September 20, 1938 in South Dakota.  They lived  in rural Maynard before moving into Gluek, where they spent most of their married life. Following the death of her husband in 1979, she moved to Granite Falls, living there until the past year when she has been a resident of the Clara City Nursing Home in Clara City and the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.  She was a member of  Granite Falls Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxillary.

She is survived by a son - John S. and his wife Audrey Arends of Montevideo; by daughters - Diane and her husband Gale Peterson of Granite Falls, Mn.; Judy and her husband David Rockwell of Beaufort, SC; and Julie and her husband Jeff Williams of Granite Falls,Mn.; by a special friend - Frank Brunner of Montevideo; by 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband John in 1979, by brothers - Alf, Ernest, and Arvid Nelson; by a sister - Beatrice Nelson ; and by a twin sister - Ruth Arends.
