Ruby M Olson

Ruby M. Olson of Montevideo died on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jeff Fitzkappes officiating.  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Ruby Olson was born in Mandt Township on June 2, 1930 to Lawrence and Minnie (Nokleby) Rud.  She grew up on the farm and attended country school.  She was confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church.  Ruby also attended agriculture school in Morris, Minnesota for a short time.  She married Elwood Jones at the Big Bend Lutheran Church parsonage, and two children were born to this union, David and Delphine.  Elwood died in 1964 at the age of 41.  Ruby worked at Northern Telecom and was a nurse's aid.  She was the nurse's aid who wheeled the first resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home in when it opened in 1964.  Ruby moved to Hopkins, Minnesota when Northern Telecom closed in Montevideo.  When she retired she returned to Montevideo and worked as a home health aid for a number of years.  Ruby moved to Brookside Manor in 2013.

Ruby was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was very active with the quilting group.  She loved to embroider, crochet, and quilt and would make items to donate to Veteran's groups as well as give away to many family, friends, and people in need.  When she moved to Brookside Manor she was involved in calling bingo, church, and crafts.  Of course, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they cherished her.  The grandchildren remember her change jar where when they would come to visit they were allowed to stick their hand in her change jar and pull out as much change and keep it.  Her family has fond memories of a sassy and spunky lady.

Ruby is survived by her children: David (Brenda) Jones, Montevideo, Delphine Bloodsaw, Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren: Anthony Bloodsaw, Jennifer Bloodsaw, Eric (Jess) Jones, Ryan (Missy) Jones; great-grandchildren: Maya, Cameron, Serenity, Anthony, Jamin, Jennaya, Jada, Henry, Hazel; sister-in-law, Carolyn Rud; nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elwood; grandson, Tim Bloodsaw; siblings: Cora (Orville) Thompson, Chester (Marlyn) Rud, Leslie (Irene) Rud, Ole Rud; and other extended family and friends.
