Russell Andrews

Russell Andrews, of Milan died on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 87. Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the Watson Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 p.m. and with a prayer service at 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Russell Clarian Andrews was born on May 12, 1920 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, Minnesota to Andrew and Christine (Bystrom) Andrews, the youngest of ten children. He was baptized at home and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church on September 23, 1934. He attended school at the District 35 Stoen School and graduated from Milan High School in 1938. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1947. He worked in the State Auditor's office for a time before working as a finance officer in Rochester, MN. He returned to the State Auditor's office, where he was in charge of municipal audits until retiring in 1982. Following his retirement, he moved back to Milan, MN, were he was a member of the Watson Lutheran Church and served as council president. His activities in retirement included membership in the Milan American Legion, the Sons Of Norway, being active in the Chippewa Co. Historical Society and active in the Watson Senior center. He was an avid bowler and poker player at one time and liked to garden and fish, especially going up to Long Lost Lake. He is survived by two sons: Paul Andrews of White Bear Lake, MN and Peter Andrews and his wife Debbie of Savage, MN; four grandchildren: Josh Andrews of White Bear Lake, MN, Kacie Andrews and her husband Jordan Martens of Canada, Erin Andrews of Brainerd, MN and Danny Andrews of Savage, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Sibert, Irvin, Willie, Arthur and John; and by four sisters: Julia Dalen, Agnes Dalen, Lillian Lang and Amy Bohm.
